Despite spending very little time in Saskatchewan, it was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Probably not something tourists often say, but the RCMP Depot Division in Regina holds a special place in my heart.
My Grandpa Ernie was RCMP and he was someone who I absolutely idolized. From the time I was in grade 2, all the way through to my first year of college, my Mom would drop my sister and I off at my Grandparent’s in the morning and pick us up after work so I spent a lot of time with them. My fondest childhood memories are from their house, which this blog is named after and included the two of them. My Grandpa was the kindest, smartest, most patient man I knew. I really struggled in school and he would sit with me for hours going over my times tables. He always had an encyclopedia next to his chair and I would often catch him reading through random pages, it was so cute! My Grandpa passed just 3 months before I met C and despite constantly wishing they had the opportunity to know each other, I cant help but think one great man sent another great mann to be here for me.
It mad me really emotional knowing this is is where all Mounties go to get their training and as a young man he would have been there walking around just as we were.
Through work C actually got to do a tour and stay the night at Depot a while ago so he had lots of interesting stories- and this was one of them… When students start at Depot they are not automatically given their uniform, they have to earn it in stages. Boots, stripes, hats etc so it is pretty easy to identify how new someone is to the program.
