The Okanagan

Destination Guide: The Okanagan | 1924 London

With CWM and I both being from BC, we each have fond memories of vacationing in the beautiful Okanagan. Growing up his family spent their time in Kelowna and Naramata while mine spent our time in Osoyoos and Penticton. Later on when it was time to go to school he made the move to Kelowna where I eventually joined him. It was the first time either of us had lived away from home and the city where we had our first place together. A lot of memories have been made there over the years which is why I am so happy that after 2 years away, we had the chance to go back and vacation! Dear friends of ours, Jay (who introduced us) and Sophie were getting married at the stunning Manteo resort, and I had to be in Calgary the weekend before for work so we decided to make a vacation out of the week in between.

Carter’s awesome parents joined us for a week of fun in the sun. We golfed, enjoyed Canada’s only 5 star resort and spa, toured wineries, took in the beautiful views, and most importantly- relaxed!

If you are looking to visit BC, I know a lot of people recommend Whistler but honestly, Kelowna and the Okanagan is much more diverse, and far less inundated with tourists.

Restaurant recommendations:

Arrow Leaf Cellars

Earls on Top

Grapevine Restaurant at Gray Monk Winery

Hotel Eldorado

Old Vines Restaurant at Quail’s Gate

PeakFine at Sparkling Hill

Terrace Restaurant at Mission Hill

Waterfront Wines

Hotel Eldorado

Manteo Resort

Sparkling Hill Resort which is owned by the Swarovski family (just outside Kelowna but absolutely amazing! Check out their website even if you aren’t going to Kelowna!)

If you are a motorhome’r or have a 5th wheel, I also recommend Orchard Hill RV Park. As Carter’s Mom describes- it is BC’s answer to Tuscany

Activities to do:

Wine tours- the Okanagan has Canada’s only desert which makes for some pretty amazing wineries. My favourite picks are Gray Monk, Mission Hill, Burrowing Owl, Nk’ Mip, and Summerhill.

Head up to Big White Mountain for some of BC’s best snow conditions

Spend a day in heaven at Sparkling Hill Resort’s 40,000 sq ft KurSpa

Play a round at one of the Okanagan’s best golf courses: Predator Ridge, Tower Ranch, Sunset Ranch, or if you are looking for the perfect 9 hole course- Aspen Grove

With a 2 hour layover in Vancouver my family surprised me with a visit and happy hour at the Fairmont Airport

Now as far as packing goes, I can assure you- this is all you need. We lived in our bathing suits, a light cover up and sunglasses. A good book and a little polish kept me entertained while laying in the sun, and the sunscreen and a hat keep your skin protected in that hot heat

  1. i would also recommend Orchard Hills RV Park for a wonderful place to stay in your RV. 9 full hook up sites nestled in a beautiful orchard. BC’s answer to Tuscany!
